Finally, two shocking incidents happened in the past week that has disturbed our collective conscience. Both were cruelties beyond imaginable.The first
one happened in the US, in Minneapolis. The Police atrocity against George Floyd is utterly deplorable. It shakes the whole basis of humanity,
and leaves us with tremendous sadness, despair, and angst as to why humans treat another fellow being as less than human. There is no place for
racial, religious or ethnic discrimination and violence in this day and age. Such acts of brutality have to end, and we must use all resources
available to us within the limits of constitution to advance conversations and actions against racial injustice, to ensure a better tomorrow for
our children and the entire world.
The second incident happened in our “Gods Own Country”, Kerala. The ghastly killing of a pregnant elephant near Silent Valley in Palakkad district
is beyond barbaric. Cruelty to animals, whatever be the pretext, in this case, protecting farmlands, is unacceptable and should be reprimanded
in the strongest possible manner. We can’t even fathom the pain that poor creature went through for 4 days with its mouth all torn apart, teeth
gone and a massive shock to the head. While farmers' right to farm is not questioned, neither should be the right of wild animals to live and graze.
Massive deforestation that has happened in Kerala and in India, in general, calls for urgent Government action to ensure that forest lands are
not occupied illegally for farming, and that the animals' are not treated in such barbaric ways that defame the entire state in the eyes of the
The pain of George Floyd and that of the mother elephant should be a clarion call for all of us to continually fight against injustices and prejudices
meted out to the helpless in our world.

May there be well-being to the people; May the rulers rule the earth along the right path;
May the cattle (animals) and the intellectuals always be fortunate. May all the beings in all the worlds become happy;
Peace, peace and peace be to all, everywhere, in all circumstances!
