Kerala Hindus of North America, Sep 11, 2008
|
|
If you are receiving this email for the first time from KHNA, the only organization that represents and networks all
Hindu Malayalees in North America, it is probably because one of your friends requested for you to be kept
informed, or we simply found you through Google! Don't worry, we won't flood your mailboxes, and your names are
safe in our database. Please forward to your friends, or email us with their names.
KHNA Wishes Everybody a Happy Onam Season!!
Dear Friends! We are glad to get back with another e-Anjali .. Well, it has been quite some time since
we wrote to you. We hope you have been keeping up with the KHNA activities through our
web site. If you haven't, this email hopes to update you!
Convention Registration Drive:
The most exciting news to tell you is about the start of the registration drive for next year's biennial
convention in Los Angeles (July 10-13, 2009). The KHNA office-bearers are working hard to ensure that the convention will
provide you with an unforgettable experience in sunny Southern California. Registration for a family of four
including all food and room expenses has been reduced from $1200 to $999 this time. Plus, due to requests
from several friends around the continent, we are also starting an automated monthly payment plan ($99 per month
for families, $74 per month for family of two, etc) that will make it painless for all of you to attend the
convention and also enjoy a great vacation in the entertainment capital of the world, L.A.! We will be back
with more information, and will keep you posted on all details frequently.
Philadelphia Kickoff Meeting: The first registration kickoff meeting was conducted in
Philadelphia on Aug 31st, at the auspicious location, Chinmaya Mission Kedar. It has almost become a tradition
for us to do it this way, just as done for the Chicago (2005) and New York (2007) conventions. KHNA thanks the
leaders from the local organizations such as the NSS of Pennsylvania, SNDP, SNA and the Nair Society of Delware
Valley for organizing the function. Please see the
News Release before the function and the
KHNA News and pictures on the Chenda Melam,
Thalappoli and all colorful activities at the "City of Brotherly Love" during this function. We are glad to announce
that 27 families filled up registration forms at the functions. A great start, indeed!
Northern California Forms New Organization (OHM-NorCal): Sometimes it is a simple event that
brings a whole large group together. For a long time, many San Francisco area Hindu malayalees have wanted to form
a single organization that focuses on the objectives all hindu families have. Somehow, it had never happened. That
changed in March, as a few friends were attending a music concert by well-known Sreevalsan Menon from Kerala, and
decided (with a little nudge from a couple of KHNA folks from L.A. who drive up there too) to form "Organization of Hindu
Malayalees Northern California". OHM-NorCal was inaugurated in late May by well-known film music director Pundit Ramesh
Narayan who also performed at the inaugural function, the organization's first Swati Tirunal Day. Former chairman of the
Kerala Kalamandalam, Prof. Prabodhachandran Nair, spoke at the occasion. Please see the details and links to their
website in KHNA's news article on OHM Nor-Cal.
KHNA President was also glad to select a regional vice president from the SF bay area, thanks to all the
enthusiasm of the friends there. We wish the new organization all success!
.
Sreemad Bhagavatha Sapthaham, California (July 7-14):
The biggest event ever conducted by KHNA in a non-convention year concluded very successfully at Tustin, CA, in July.
This sapthaham was done in Kilippattu style which was being, to our knowledge, for the first time ever in North
America. Sapthaha Acharya Sri. Mannady Hari from Thiruvananthapuram led the
bhagavatha reading at the Chinmaya Mission Mithila, with the help of three Yajna
Pouraanikars from New York, Sri. Parthasaradhi Pillai, Sri Gopalakrishna Pillai, and Sri. Radhakrishna Pillai.
Dr. A. P. Sukumar from Vancouver (Canada) and Dr. Sindu Pillai (CA) also took part in the reading during the week.
All poojas were conducted by Sri Hari Guruji from Detroit in the Kerala traditions. OHM The function was attended by
several hundreds of devotees. A unique aspect of the sapthaham was the hundreds of poojas, archanas, pushpaanjalis and
nivedyams done for families around the continent, from Toronto to Vancouver, from Florida to Washinton and Connecticut
to Arizona! Please see the Sapthaham News page
for the news releases and pictures. We will be back with some more items, such as the hundreds of specially-made
Sudarshana chakrams which underwent poojas, and also about other activities like the Yuvasamgamam and
the Intellectual Hinduism Forum during the sapthaham!

From the Editors' desk
Last time we talked about how to motivate our youth to be aware of KHNA activities and how all of us
need to work actively at that. This time the request is for all of you to help us identify the gaps in our reach
among the vast population of Hindu malayalees in the continent. So far during the past 10 months we have brought
awareness about us to several more cities (San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Vancouver, Denver, St. Louis etc).
We need your help in identifying those who would like to spearhead the activities in several more cities - Cleveland,
Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Nashville, Minneapolis, Guadalajara, Mexico City, etc, are all cities where we would
like to have active contacts. If you are aware of those who are interested in working with us, or of organizations and
malayali bhajan groups, please let email us.
Thank You!

Spiritual Corner:
This is not exactly a religious piece but it is spiritual for sure!
Not sure of the author's details, but it was forwarded by Sri Mohanan Nair
to the khnagroup mailing list as a "Story by Ritu Arora.......". If you have

Think Out Of The Box
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said:
"I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat.
He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back
so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy.
That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were.
The boy recognized his footsteps and asked,
"Were u the one who changed my sign this morning? What did u write?"
The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what u said but in a different way."
What he had written was: "Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it."
Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?
Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply
said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that
they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?
Moral of the Story:
Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and
positively.
Invite the people towards good with wisdom.
Live life with no excuse and love with no regrets.
When Life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile.
Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence.
Prepare for the future without fear.
Keep the faith and drop the fear.
Don't believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs.
Life is a mystery to solve not a problem to resolve.
Life is wonderful if you know how to live....
