Kerala Hindus of North America, Nov 07, 2008

If you are receiving this email for the first time from KHNA, the only organization that represents and networks all Hindu Malayalees in North America, it is probably because one of your friends requested for you to be kept informed! Please forward to your friends, or email us with their names.

Dear Friends!  It is time another e-Anjali. We hope you have been keeping up with the KHNA activities through our web site!

Meetings in Chicago and St.Louis: The registration drive is in full swing for the upcoming convention next year (July 10-13, Ontario, Southern California). KHNA conducted meetings in Chicago and St.Louis last month. The Chicago meeting was organized by Geethamandalam, and the St. Louis meeting was organized by Ohmkaram. See the links below to the full news releases and pictures at our website, or click on the two pictures above!
.

Bhagavatha Sapthaha Yajnam in Dallas (Nov 23-29): KHNA is pleased to announce a Grand Bhagavatha (Moolam) Sapthaham conducted by the Kerala Hindu Society of Dallas during the thanksgiving week (Nov 22-29, 7am-8.30pm) at the KHS Center (4601 Gus Thomasson Road, Mesquite, TX 75150). This sapthaham is a rare opportunity for our community. Please note that it will be done in Kerala traditions by Yajna Acharya Sri Sankaramangalam Sankara Pillai, based on the Moola Bhagavatham (unlike the L.A. and New York sapthahams this year, which were based on the Kilippattu bhagavatham). The whole community in the continent has had a memorable return to this grand Kerala tradition this year with the sapthahams conducted for the first time. The Dallas sapthaham may be the last chance for a while for the devotees to get the unique spiritual experience. You can request rare poojas to be done at the sapthaham and you have an opportunity to support the yajnam with sponsorships, annadaanam and pushpadaanam (please see below for the list) - "Jayathi thaethikam krishnaa janmanaa vraja!"

From the Editors' desk - At the upcoming convention (July 2009), we are expecting several parallel sessions with panel discussions and round tables of interest to the community. These sessions are expected to be done in other halls at the convention all through the convention period, and would provide an opportunity to all who are attending the convention to take part and contribute, rather than just be spectators at the main hall programs. We expect to publish summaries of the sessions and the comments after the convention so that the discussions will result in a permanent record which may also lead to further activities of KHNA in the future. The sessions are generally expected to be of 1 to 1.5 hours in length with anywhere from 3 or 4 speakers at a panel discussion or up to 10 or 15 participants at a round table. If any of you have suggestions of such panel and roundtable topics, or have interest in organizing such sessions, please email us. Thank You!

Spiritual Corner:

You have all seen fan clubs of sportsmen and movie stars. Have you ever seen bhakthas running websites like fan clubs? One of the best is run by a group of devotees of Guruvayoorappan. If you have not seen www.guruvayoor.com, please visit the site. It will be a great spiritual experience. The site is run from California but you will hardly find much information on who all are behind it. Sunil Menon (active in KHNA as a San Francisco regional coordintor) does a lot of heavy lifting for the web site. You will find complete bhagavatha readings at the site, recorded by Dr. AP Sukumar of Vancouver, Canada (also the KHNA coordinator there). Blogs from several devotees, an active forum, and even a video of Guruvayoor darshanam, can be found at the fantastic web site, which has no direct connection with the Temple administration. "By the bhakthas, of the bhakthas, for the devotees" of Guruvayoorappan, indeed! Please take a look.

Here is an amazing story that Mr. Sunil Menon told us when he attended the Los Angeles sapthaham in July. The number of member names in the forum was getting close to 1000 recently and it reached 1000 one fine day. The 1000th member was a lady from India and Sunil sent an email to everybody that there were a 1000 people in the list, along with her name. It was only when others replied to him that he noticed the name of the lady, who hherself was totally unaware that she was the 1000th person. Her last name? - "Sahasranamam"!! Guruvayoorappan was indeed up to a bit of leela there - don't you think? ..
