Obituary : Sri Gopalakrishna Pillai (1950-2010)


  

 

White Plains (NY). Sri Gopalakrishna Pillai passed away on Saturday, December 4th, 2010. Sri Pillai, the son of Vasudevan Nair and Janaki Amma began his career in the Indian Air Force. After their marriage, Gopalakrishnan and Ramani moved to New York where he worked as a Communications Supervisor at Stolt Parcel Tankers, Inc.

 

Sri Pillai was actively involved in volunteering at religious and cultural organizations. Through the years he had held positions of Secretary and Treasurer at various community organizations like the Westchester Malayalee Association and Nair Benevolent Association. Sri Pillai was a beloved teacher of Malayalam language at Gurukulam, a community organization in White Plains, NY.

 

In recent years, Sri Pillai was much in demand as Yajna Pouranikar and participated in various Bhagavatha Sapthahams conducted by KHNA and other organizations in New York, Los Angeles and Washington, DC. Devotees enjoyed his inimitable style and devotional rendering of Sreemad Bhagavatham.

 

Devoted husband to Ramani Pillai and loving father to Rekha Puppala and Santhya Pillai, he is also survived by his two younger brothers, Chandran and Vijayan Nair. Sri Gopalakrishna Pillai will always be remembered for his pleasing manners, wonderful sense of humor and devotion to his family and faith.
